BARTLES TAXONOMY

This theory consists of having the belief that there are 4 main groups which are the purpose behind individuals playing games in the first place. 

These groups include: Achievers, Explorers, Socializers, Killers 

1. Achievers

People who are 'achievers' play games to achieve the best/most out of any forms of games.

If you are an achiever, you will mainly play a game for these reasons:
To win the game
To receive a high score
To beat a level
To earn the most rewards.

2. Explorers

People who are 'explorers' play games to discover things which others may not think about.

If you are an explorer, you will mainly play games for these reasons:
To discover
To find places that others haven't reached yet

3. Socializers

People who are 'socializers' play games to have a connection with the community.

If you are a socializer, you will mainly play games for these reasons:
To help others intentionally to meet new people
To involve yourself in trade

4. Killers

People who are 'killers' play games to have power over others.

If you are a killer, you will mainly play games for these reasons:
To cause misery to other players
To feel the satisfaction of beating someone
To make other players frustrated

TEST RESULTS




After taking the Bartle Gamer Psychology test, I am told that I am different percentages for each of the player types (60% Explorer, 60% Achiever, 40% Socializer and 40% Killer).

Personally, I strongly believe that I am each of these player types due to how I engage in games.

As an individual, depending on how engaged I am with the game overall reflects how I respond towards it. For example, if I am really engaged with the game, I will want to do all I can to win and defeat the opponent (which makes me a Killer and Achiever in this context). One example of a game I have engaged with very strongly is 'Ludo Star'.


Task 2

I think that the target audience for 'Wired' is the age range between 16-25 and people who particularly enjoy solving puzzles/enjoy the subject of Physics. This game can also be used for educational purposes to teach people more about series circuits and parallel circuits. Also, I think that the player who would be best for this game is a player who has the explorer characteristics.

TASK 3
After playing this game, I still feel that my idea of the target audience is correct, however perhaps younger than 25 (20 instead) since the game isn't as technical/difficult as I thought.

Why would your pen portrait typical audience member enjoy playing HellBlade?


Bradley would enjoy playing HellBlade, because as a hobby/business, Bradley makes YouTube videos of him doing walk-throughs of games and giving them reviews as he is doing the walk-through. Also, he has done a walk-through of HellBlade in the past and has given it positive feedback by telling the audience about how impressive the visuals are. 


TASK 8

Explain what aspects of HellBlade the target audience is going to like best


In terms of what aspects the target audience would particularly enjoy about HellBlade, I think that they would enjoy the way there is a large portion of violence throughout the game. I think this, because after learning more about video games, I have noticed that including violence within the game instantly attracts a wide variety of people due to the fact that people enjoy feeling the satisfaction of beating something/someone. 


Also, I think that having a female protagonist would ensure that the target audience enjoys playing HellBlade, because having a female protagonist being involved in a large portion of violence will prove to the target audience that females can be involved in gaming and females aren't weak. This overall will attract a larger audience number because it won't isolate the female gender from playing this game. 


TASK 9

Have a think about how you find out which media products to go and watch/play/read/consume. Explain what would influence the target audience to play HellBlade. What are the key influences on the target audience?

In terms of what would influence the target audience to play HellBlade, I think that the addiction towards technology would be a way of influencing people successfully into playing the game. For example, due to majority of people around the world having access to social media platforms (e.g. Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook), this can be a way of successfully attracting the audience, because with social media, as soon as something is posted, if it is interesting, it will get forwarded to others and even reposted. This would influence the target audience, because as soon as it gains status, others will be curious to know why it is so popular, which would lead to them purchasing the game. 


Also, the way certain people are famous and have fans can influence the target audience to play HellBlade, because for example, if a YouTuber is reviewing a game and giving it positive feedback and preaching how much they enjoy the game, this would lead to the fans wanting to purchase the game due to their 'idol' enjoying it so much.
